Nanjing Foreign Language School (NFLS) is one of the seven oldest foreign language schools established under the direct guidance ofPremier Zhou Enlai.     With the rapid progress of globalization and the rapid development of education internationalization in the 21st century, Nanjing Foreign Language Schoolcontinues to adhere to the idea of whole person education in order to keep abreast of the times.Therefore, NFLS strives to cultivate a global vision with a Chinese soul and further advance the holistic curriculum idea of blending Chinese and Western culture, mastering arts and science around this goal.It constructs a four carriages course system that takes the national compulsory courses, the local compulsory courses, the school-based elective course and the school-based activity courses, which strives to provide the most extensive platform and curriculum resources for the development of students' thinking, ability and quality,and comprehensively improve the moral, humanistic and modern scientific literacy that students must have in the new era.

    Nanjing Foreign Language Schooloffers four language courses in total: English, German, French and Japanese. It now consists of a junior middle school, a high school, and an international center. Currently, there are 85 classes and 3739 students.NFLS has a distinctive feature of foreign language teaching, which provides a solid foundation for students to blend Chinese and Westerncultures.Furthermore, the high quality of teachers, small class teaching model, diverse curriculum and frequent opportunities of foreign exchange also provide students with highly favorable conditions for foreign language learning.Against the background of globalization, widening cultural horizonsis necessary for high-level talents.NFLS’s prominent advantages in teaching arts and sciences set a well-rounded foundation for students to master arts and science.Each year, many students of NFLS stand out in various liberal arts competitions and science competitions, both at home and abroad.In International Science Olympiads, the students of our school have won 8 gold medals. They are Xu Kaiwen (International Physics Olympiad in 1996), Zhu Zeyuan (International Olympiad in Informatics in 2005 and 2006), Jiang Xiqian (International Chemistry Olympiad in 2008), Mao Jieming (International Olympiad in Informatics in 2009), Gu Qiao (International Physics Olympiad in 2012), Qiao Mingda and Xu Haoran (International Physics Olympiad in 2013).Over the past three years, hundreds of students from NFLS have received first prize in international, national and provincial competitions in theinformatics, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology disciplines.In various foreign languages, liberal arts, speech and talent competitions above the provincial levels, students from NFLS also have received many notable prizes.In addition to the rich resource of school-based curriculum, NFLS has a varied and colorful school culture.For instance, activities such as the virtue wall, virtue card, virtue notebook, and volunteer activities to help people with disabilities exert a subtle influence on cultivating students' morality;the Foreign Language Festival, the Arts Festival, the Reading Festival, Science Week, the Sports Festival, the Students Union, Spring walking tour, the May Fourth Debates, and the Etiquette Star offer students a broad stage to practice their abilities, express their personalities, and show their talents.The lively school culture of NFLS nurtures the students’ spirit of independence, self-confidence and self-improvement.

    Since 2002, Nanjing Foreign Language School has opened British Columbia Academy (BCA), Cambridge International A-Level Program and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which are highly valuedby students and their parents.Now, every year, a large number of outstanding students from NFLS are admitted to universities in China and around the world.     Nanjing Foreign Language Schoolhas a highly competitive faculty.Currently, it has 10 Senior Teachers at Professor Level, 15 Special Grade Teachers, and 3 Renowned Teachers of Nanjing. Furthermore, among the core teachers of NFLS, 32 of them have beenawarded the honorable title of Academic Leader either at provincial level or city level, and 55 of them won the title of Outstanding Young Teacher of Nanjing.     So far, Nanjing Foreign Language School has educated about 200 outstanding diplomats for China, 10 of whom act as Ambassadors, 40 of whom act as counselors, business officers and military officers to other countries, and more than 40 of whom worked or are currently working for former Chairmen Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and current Chairman Xi Jinping. There are also five generals among the alumni of NFLS. Furthermore, many more graduates of NFLS hold prominentpositions in the fields of finance, business, science, education, economy and culture. 南外有频繁的国际交流活动。国际化的视野为南外的发展带来勃勃生机，各种不同背景的文化在校园里交相辉映。学校与美国、英国、德国、法国、日本、澳大利亚、新西兰、波兰、丹麦、荷兰等国家的40余所中学建立了友好姐妹学校，彼此间的国际性双向交流活动日益频繁。

南外师资力量雄厚，目前，拥有教授级高级教师10名，特级教师15名，南京市名师3名，骨干教师中有32人被评为省、市学科带头人，55人获得“市青年优秀教师”称号；并聘有50余名外籍教师。南外教师教育教学理念先进，教学业务精湛，始终以大爱之心关爱呵护学生，以平等民主的态度对待学生，堪称学生的良师益友。
